Weaning Steer Calves onto our Autumn beef mix from Reid Stockfeeds. Today we are starting with a 14% Protein & 12.5% ME (Metabolisable Energy) base with some additional almond hulls for digestible fibre (slowing the rate of feed passage through the rumen). Getting them onto it with a light mix of oaten chaff and then pasture hay as they accustom themselves to their new dietary supplement. We use this to fill any feed gaps being caused by the cold nights which slows grass growth as sub-soil temperatures cool.
